All the below mentioned procedures are performed at our Lab. The equipment set up is one of the best in the world, and particular modality for a patient is decided in consultation with the patient.
IVF means In Vitro (outside body) Fertilization. IVF involves several steps like; ovulation induction, egg retrieval, sperm retrieval, gamete fertilization and embryo transfer. One cycle of IVF can take about two weeks.Doctors stimulates the woman with hormonal drugs that causes ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Once mature, the eggs are removed from the woman. They are fertilized in the lab along with the partners sperm using traditional dish technique. Please see IVF guide videos here
ICSI means Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection, which is similar to IVF here, the embryologist manually takes each single sperm to inject directly into each egg with a small injection needle. ICSI aims to increase the fertilization ratio of eggs.
SI: At our lab, we usually use ICSI technology, unless specifically asked for other method / technology.
IMSI means Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection is a new, improved technology where the image of the sperm is magnified 7,200 times unlike 16 times in ICSI. This technique helps to pick the best morphologically looking healthier sperms and identify structures within the sperm head known as vacuoles which decreases the possible fertilization or implantation of embryo. This technique is usually used in cases with poor sperm quality.
SI: We do have IMSI technology at our Lab and regularly use it for our patients.
Embryoscope is a Time-lapse image monitoring system from fertilization till transfer. It’s an incubator that maintains the necessary physiological conditions required by a living embryo during an in vitro process, with an additional peculiarity: it includes a camera that continuously captures images of the embryonic development. Firstly, it spares doctors from taking the embryos out from the incubator to observe under microscope, thereby preventing embryos from changes in temperature, light, etc. Importantly, it allows for a selection of better embryos and thus increasing implantation rate.
SI: Embryoscope was first installed in India at our associate Lab. It has indeed shown increased chances of pregnancy in all types of cycles.

IVM means in vitro (outside body) maturation of eggs after their retrieval from the ovaries. Immature eggs cannot undergo IVF / ICSI for fertilization and need to grow further in incubator. Cases where woman may develop life threatening condition like OHSS (ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome), are advised to undergo retrieval few days earlier and to perform IVM on eggs. When the eggs are mature, they are fertilized with your partner’s sperm.
SI: We have used this technique only twice and have been successful once.
In cases of MRKH, or post hysterectomy Ovarian relocation, vaginal Egg Pick up may not be possible and abdominal (laparoscopic) ovum pickup needs to be done. A fiber-optic nerve with a small video camera is placed into the abdomen by means of a tiny cleft just beneath the belly button. The needle for removing the eggs is inserted through a small incision, usually at one side of the abdomen. However, as a rule, this procedure is carried out in Major operating room and on a day-case basis.
SI: We have already performed more than 10 Laparoscopic egg pick ups in Surrogacy cases and couples have successfully taken children back.
Egg freezing, also known as mature oocyte cryopreservation. Eggs retrieved from ovaries, frozen unfertilized and stored for later use. A frozen egg can be thawed at a later date, combined with sperm in a lab and implanted in your uterus (in vitro fertilization).With age playing an important role on women’s egg quality, Egg freezing might be an option if one wishes to delay their pregnancy.
SI: We do egg freezing pretty frequently, and have been able to successfully thaw them later for Embryo creation.
TESA / TESE
TESA / TESE means Testicular / Epididymal Sperm Aspiration or Extraction). TESE is a surgical sperm retrieval procedure used in fertility treatment for men who have no sperm in their ejaculate sample.TESE is used for men with both obstructive and non-obstructive azoospermia. TESE is a minor theatre procedure carried out on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia. Sperm are retrieved from the testes and can be used to achieve fertilisation of eggs in the laboratory. However, because the numbers of sperm that retrieved is often very low, it is necessary to combine TESE with ICSI.
SI: We have successfully used this procedure few times with our international clients.
